BIO and Origin of NATTY FLATS
Angelika Fenn
Owner, Designer
Before children, I had a high power sales position, traveling three weeks a
month around the country making lots of money. After my first daughter was
born I made the decision to change careers and become a stay home mom. I
was so used to the fast paced business world that I found it hard to sit
still and I knew I needed more for myself and my creative, innovative mind.
So, I started sewing and decorating my home, that's when my life changed.
I love the instant gratification that comes when you see "what can be" and
actually make it happen. White walls and naked windows are a non-option for
me. I am obsessed with color, pattern, texture, form and function. I love
dreaming up and creating unique one of a kind window treatments and bedding
for my clients. When I met my best friend and business partner Janeabeth 5
years ago I realized I had met my match and together we shared a passion for
designing and sewing. We started Natty Flats from our homes and have since
successfully kicked off 2008 with a new commercial shop!
We are very excited about being able to be "moms" first and follow
our "passion" careers in a thriving business we have made for ourselves.
This is the first time in my life that I can actually say I love what I am
doing!

Growing up in West Virginia, I was always
surrounded by natural beauty. I also appreciated the beauty of peoples' homes. I
was always changing my room around and the decor through high school. My
roommates in college probably got tired of dealing with the rearranging and
decorating of dorm rooms and apartments. I'm not sure why I majored in marketing
and advertising instead of interior design. At least the marketing allowed me to
use my creativity!
I moved to Augusta after college and worked a few different jobs, but was never
fulfilled by what I was doing. Being a mom of two kept me busy and was the
greatest job I could ever hope for, but I still needed something for just me. I
began taking sewing classes; learning how to smock and make dresses for my
daughter. I was hooked! Sewing seemed to help me relax and allowed me to have
some time to myself. I wanted to learn more, so I started making pillows and
blankets and what ever else I could figure out. That's when Angelika and her
family moved in down the street and the Natty story began.
Angelika and I hit it off from day one! Our love of decorating and sewing only
added to our friendship. We started sewing together and working from our homes
so we could be moms first. We were offered the chance to decorate a showcase
home for the Parade of Homes in 2006 and we jumped! It was a lot of hard work
and even more fun! Since then, we have been very lucky to continue to do what we
love and our passion in life. Enjoy the website and thank you for taking the
time to find out more about Natty Flats!
